Girl Scouting is Fun!

I have to update on the rest of our March happenings because in about a week we'll be off to Orlando for some Disney and Harry Potter fun...squeak(I can hardly contain my excitement).  Yes, I know you're thinking, how old are you but seriously, you're never to old for Mickey Mouse Magic!

Tyler finished up some Girl Scout projects in March.  One that her and I are particularly proud of is her Bronze Award.  The Bronze Award is the highest honor that a Junior Girl Scout can receive.  She had to take a community problem or issue and find a solution for it.

For this she decided on her own to work on a project for the homeless.  She put together care packages with things like cup-o-soup, bottled water, granola bars, soap, shampoo, bandades and some other things. We keep these in our car and when we see someone on the side of the road, we give them a bag. The ones that we have handed out have been very appreciated.  The next step in her bronze award was to spread this act of kindness with some friends and have them join in her journey. So Tyler gave them a list on how they can make their own bags at home and we invited them to help us serve meals at a local church. Tyler brought 2 of her Girl Scout friends to our first meal serving and they had such a great time, they wanted to do it again. They're job was to push the dessert carts around all night so who could not want to do that!

I saw this quote somewhere and we've kinda adopted it as our little moto for this project...

Another project was to earn one of their badges by creating recycled paper.  Papa Tom made Tyler a screen to do this and then our paper project began.  It was definitely a messy project but it was really cool. Tyler used newspaper and orange tissue paper and Logan used white tissue paper. Then we added decorations with scraps of wrapping paper and play money.

They worked on a few other badges this month and year-to-date Tyler has earned the detective, first aid, cooking, jewelry making, drawing, and staying fit badges.
