Tornado Time!

It's that time of year again and you can all rest assured that we will be camping out safe in our storm room during any and all tornadoes! Now that we are in our new house, we have a nice little concrete area under our front porch that we can ride out any storm. At the sound of the siren it's now habit that I put on my shoes, grab my purse & phone and get everyone into the basement...Kevin has trained us well!  One of my friends said she puts bicycle helmets on her kiddos...not a bad idea!


When I was little, I remember this one time that a tornado was coming so we went down into our cellar where we had to sit in a lawn chair to stay out of the water that was covering the floor. And you say I never remember anything mom! 

Well, our kids certainly have it made nowadays.  You would think that they were going to sleep at a hotel.  Kevin had the idea to put together a box full of some things in case of a destructive storm...see picture below!  He asked the girls to get a change of clothes to put in the box and that started it all.  They were on a mission to gather everything that they wouldn't want destroyed in a tornado and stuff it in our storm room.

clothes

peanut butter

bread

canned food

bottled water

diapers

crackers

kevin's gun (i'm still not sure if this is because he didn't want anything to happen to it or if we needed it to fight off those wanting to steal our peanut butter)

Although i think it's kinda funny, it is a really serious thing and I gotta love that my husband is always prepared so that we can all feel safe!


One last note...Tyler said as the storms were coming through, "but mom, if a tornado destroys our house, we'll have to pay for all those library books!" I love the things that go through kids minds, they make things seem so simple!

It's this time of year that we dream of retiring somewhere free of tornadoes!
